Our Work in Calais, Grand Synthe and Northern France

Committee for Refugee Relief is leading advocacy work with several entities of the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, including Mr. Leo Heller Special Rapporteur on the human right to safe drinking water and sanitation, Mr. Felipe González Morales Special Rapporteur on the human rights of migrants, Mr. Michel Forst Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights defenders and Ms. Leilani Farha Special Rapporteur on the adequate housing as a component of the right to an adequate standard of living, and on the right to non-discrimination in this context. In that respect, it coordinates a coalition of 15+ associations based in France, UK and Belgium.

Committee for Refugee Relief has also been invited at several round tables on the question of human rights to water and sanitation of forcibly displaced people in need of humanitarian assistance.

Committee for Refuge Relief’s advocacy work was impactful as it resulted in an un-official visit of the Special Rapporteur on the human right to safe drinking water and sanitation to Calais and Grande-Synthe (Northern France) in January 2018, as well as two press statements denouncing the human rights violations committed in the region.
